    Wisconsin Statewide "Guard Home" Organizing Meeting

Get together with the Wisconsin folks who are moving this campaign forward, including the "Bring the Guard Home" national coordinator, by joining the Wisconsin "Bring the Guard Home" campaign at 6pm on Friday, June 19th at the MREA Energy Fair in Custer, near Stevens Point.

Anti-war activist Elaine Brower, Mikhail Pappas, and other members of the national Guard Home campaign will speak at a workshop outlining a state-by-state legislative effort to bring the National Guard home from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wisconsin is launching its campaign to "Bring the Guard Home! It's the Law.," and you are invited! For this special three-day series of events, we are bringing Benson Scotch to Wisconsin from his home state of Vermont.

 

Benson Scotch is senior legal counsel to the national Bring the Guard Home! campaign, and this will be your best opportunity to learn more about the legal, political, and moral issues involved in this exciting effort. Peace groups and organizations across the country and abroad have called for demonstrations on April 4, the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's famed 1967 Riverside Church address that openly declared his opposition to the Vietnam War. That day also is the 60th anniversary of the founding of NATO, the supposed defensive military alliance now currently waging the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan.

    Security Without Empire -- National Organizing Conference on Foreign Military Bases

From Okinawa and Guam to Honduras, Germany, Iraq, and beyond people who have suffered from the abuses inherent to foreign military bases have been calling for their withdrawal. People in the U.S. have joined this call, outraged by the damage done by U.S. bases abroad and by their expense, which diverts $138 billion a year from addressing human needs and revitalizing our economy. Representatives of 13 organizations have come together to organize a national conference or the closing and withdrawal of military bases.
